The Structured Safety Process™ (SSP) is the comprehensive management system used to guide any organization toward an incident free workplace. The SSP sets forth the systems, programs, and activities used to create and maintain a culture where safety is a paramount value. This process assigns responsibilities to all personnel, assigned to and supporting the organization and sets forth requirements for executing these responsibilities.

The process provides a common platform from which any facility can achieve and maintain safety excellence. It serves as a management tool to achieve the objectives of:

  • Best in Class safety performance
  • Protecting the safety and health of employees and the environment.
  • Being recognized as a valued member of the community.

The SSP includes tools for: 1) establishing safety objectives; 2) developing action plans to achieve these objectives; 3) assigning responsibilities and resources to complete action plans; and 4) checking progress in the completion of action plans.

The SSP integrates safety into all aspects of the business, incorporating a common approach, which eliminates the gaps between business organizations and functional groups. SSP also emphasizes "how" an organization is going to accomplish its goals, as well as "who" does "what", "when" and "why." SSP brings structure to a wide range of activities and effectively integrates them into a functional whole that delivers value in excess of the sum of its parts.

The SRI Group utilizes our expertise, and the knowledge acquired in successfully implementing hundreds of SSPs, to customize each process so that it meets the client's unique needs. This customization captures the client's strengths and incorporates proven management systems and behavioral activities to address areas of need. The process is further refined to seamlessly integrate into the client's organizational structure and management systems, while retaining the flexibility to adapt to changes. No additional personnel resources are required to implement and sustain the SSP.

The various safety management systems, activities, and tools of the Structured Safety Process™ combine to produce a value driven culture where safety is a natural occurring facet of every job, task, and business decision. Accident and injury rates are reduced below all time lows and continually improve thereafter.

The Structured Safety Process™ Is

1. A system for Operational Excellence

The SSP creates an approach to work which improves all aspects of your operation. The skills and techniques provided in SSP improve the ability to fundamentally execute core business processes

2. An Accountability System

The SSP provides an accountability system through which the performance of each person and/or work group can be evaluated. Specific role documents have been developed for every organizational level. These role documents constitute performance requirements, which must be diligently executed for maximum benefit.

3. A Platform to Demonstrate Commitment

The SSP ensures that leaders at all levels have the structure, systems and skills they need to demonstrate their commitment to workplace safety and to promote the values that drive excellence.

4. A Business Imperative

Increase competition, higher operating costs and greater regulation are facts of today's business environment. The SSP reduces cost, ensures compliance and results in enhanced business performance.

5. An EH&S Management System

SSP incorporates the requirements contained in ISO, Responsible Care and VPP into one seamless process. Unlike many management systems, SSP also includes the operational detail necessary for quality implementation and execution.

6. A Skills Development System

At SRI we believe that safety-related prevention activities should be used to enhance and develop the skills required for safe work. The SSP provides and prescribes the use of various activities which build the comptences of all personnel.

7. A Continuous Improvement Process

The SSP provides numerous data streams and metrics, which can be used to assess the effectiveness of process activities, evaluate the progress toward stated objectives and provide a platform for continuous improvement efforts.
